Welcome to the t2t blog... a resource of the quirky, unusual, inspired and funky items that take recycling and repurposing to an art form. The first item I have for you is very special to me - a Christmas tree made entirely from coke cans by a man in South Africa. This item was a gift from my Grandma to support my 'going green' initiatives, and is also a spectacular work of art. This particular piece was made by Donald Kubjana who was born to impoverished parents in the small village of Botlokwanear. To support his family he taught himself carpentry and as a hobby entered the 'Buy Afrikavita FNB Create a Christmas Tree' competition, taking our frist prize. As a result he picked up a contract with Henry Bucks, who is not only marketing his craft in their stores, but supporting his family as well. A little dream really can go a long way! |
