Description
A beautiful living necklace, made from an old thimble, a broken necklace chain, and a little bit of solder... If I had a diamond drill, I probably would have drilled a hole for the chain rather than soldering it. |
|
Step 1 : Gather materials and sand back the thimble
Gather all the materials you might need:
Thimble
Solder
Broken necklace chain
Sanding materials
Soldering iron
and sand back the sides of thimble where the solder will be placed.
|
|
Step 2 : Put solder on the thimble and chain ends
In order to get this to stick properly I had to put solder on the thimble first, then the ends of the chain prior to attempting the join.
|
|
Step 3 : Join the soldered chain to the thimble
Join the soldered chain to the thimble - this required a few attempts as it was a delicate operation. If you have a drill capable of drilling through metal I'd recommend drilling a small hole in each side for the chain, rather than attempting to solder.

Step 4 : Fill with a succulent plant
Choose your favourite plant! Though succulents work best and last the longest. A small piece of cardboard to stop the dirt spilling out is also a good idea. Don't forget to water it!
